Larry Donnell Brown Sr. passed away on March 4, 2025. No services are scheduled at this time.
Larry Brown, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, was born on March 24, 1949, in Kerns, Texas, to Elvin Faulk and Minnie Mae Brown. He was raised in the small town of Amherst, Texas, where he was nurtured in the hard-working tradition of farming, a way of life that would shape his character and become the foundation of his lifelong career.
After completing his education, Larry attended Job Corps, where he discovered a passion for mechanics. It was there that he honed his skills and developed a deep love for working on cars. He was especially fond of his prized possession, a classic Roadrunner, which he would often lovingly tinker with and maintain for hours on end.
Larry was a man of many passions, but perhaps none more evident than his deep love for his family and his animals. As much as he adored his numerous grandchildren, it was his two dogs, Emmy and Blue, who held a special place in his heart. These loyal companions were more than pets to him; they were his constant, faithful friends, and they brought him immeasurable joy in his later years.
A lover of all kinds of music, Larry held an impressive collection of records that spanned genres, reflecting his diverse tastes.
What made Larry stand out most, however, was his uniquely blunt personality. Known for his forthright and no-nonsense approach to life, he had a reputation for speaking his mind, often in a “take it or leave it” manner. It didn’t matter who you were, Larry would always tell it exactly how he saw it, without sugar-coating or hesitation. His honesty, while sometimes jarring, was always rooted in a deep sense of loyalty and care. Those who knew him well appreciated this authenticity, even if it meant hearing the unvarnished truth.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, May Brown; sister, Stella Williams and his brother, Larry Washington.
Survivors left to cherish his memory are his children, Larry Brown Jr., Tavares Robinson (Cardra), Joshua Brown, Tyrone Glover, special son, Larry McClendon, Sheila Brown Thomas, Darlene Singleton, Charlotte Nelson, LaTonya Glover, Kirby Espy (Matthew), Robin Finch, Tamaro Brown, and Sherri Thomas; his brothers, Leonard Washington, Tommy Washington, Freddie Washington, Elvin Faulk Jr. and Johnny Washington, Melvin Washington, Prezell Washington; his sisters, Joann “Emma” Jackson, Bobbie Jean Robinson, Barbara Ann Finch, Ethel Mae Faulk Stanford, Barbara Faulk and Linda Harris; his lifelong partner, Melody Carter; his grandchildren, Juanita, Ketrich, Tamala, Darian, Brandon and wife, Latoya, Pretend, Kimberly, Kandace, Tehler, Damien, Kelee, Cheyanne, Riah, Christl, Jamaan, Shauntrey, Deyondre, Kayvion, Lance, Kirmaria, Jermaya, Joshua, Jazzlynn, Taliya, Jakayvien, Jatavyus, Zek and Kaileanah and a host of many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family members.
