Kevin Michael Bowen, 21, passed away on October 18, 2017 in Amarillo, Texas. Visitation took place Friday, October 20, 2017 at LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Coulter Road Chapel. A private grave side service will take place on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at Llano Cemetery.
Kevin was born on June 22, 1996 in Amarillo, Texas. Kevin was a happy little boy who loved and enjoyed everything related to trains, reading books, and doing puzzles. He participated in Cub Scouts and played soccer and basketball with Kids Inc. but he really enjoyed video games and everything related to computers the most. While attending Greenways Intermediate, Kevin learned to play chess and the trombone, which he kept playing all the way through 10th grade at Randall High, where he participated in marching band. He also received his CompTIA A+ and Network+ certification while taking computer classes at Randall High before graduating in May of 2014. Kevin went on to study at Amarillo College and work there as a peer mentor and tutor and received his Associates Degree in Computer Information Systems in December of 2016. In June of 2016, Kevin started working for McDonald’s. He was a reliable and responsible employee and worked his way up to shift leader. He left McDonald’s at the beginning of October 2017 in order to learn about ranching and farming because he was thinking about pursuing a degree in agriculture. Kevin spent a lot of time at the start of this year taking care of his dad Bill when he was ill and in the hospital.
Kevin enjoyed reading books, drawing, and playing games online with his friends in his free time. He had a sweet and gentle spirit and was a generous and giving person when he saw a need.
We are at a loss as to why Kevin decided to cut his life short, and he will be dearly missed by his parents, friends and relatives.
Kevin was preceded in death by his grandparents Maurice and Virginia Bowen, his grandfather Werner Poltermann and his aunt Linda Horton.
He is survived by his parents William Bowen of Canyon, TX and Heike Bowen of Amarillo, TX; his grandmother Traudchen Poltermann, his aunt Iris Poltermann, his uncle Joerg Poltermann and wife Britta and daughter Linn Greta, all of Cologne, Germany; his uncle Wayne Bowen, his aunt Peggy Berry and husband Dr. Don Berry of Austin, TX and his uncle Steve Horton of Odessa, TX; cousins Malte Poltermann and wife Jona and daughters Nora and Nele of Pulheim, Germany; Dr. Christopher Horton and wife Deborah and sons Zachary & Landon of Paris, VA; Joshua Horton and wife Elizabeth of Austin, TX; Captain Derek Horton and wife Courtney and daughter Cadance of Midland, TX; and Jordan Horton of Midland, TX.
