Kathryn Blessen

Kathryn Johnson Blessen, 96, of Amarillo died Monday, September 29, 2014. Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday in Anna Street Church of Christ with Gene Shelburne and Elgin Conner officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by LaGrone Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors of Amarillo.

Kathryn was born April 4, 1918, to Arthur Johnson and Lizzie Holland Johnson at their home near Turkey, Texas. She was graduated from Turkey High School and attended business school in Plainview. She married Jimmie Blessen in Amarillo on November 4, 1952. They lived in Amarillo all their married life and were among the charter members of Anna Street Church of Christ.

Kathryn was preceded in death by her mother and father; her sisters, Stella Conner, Gladys Johnson, and Kaleta Corder; and three brothers, R.V. Johnson, Eiland Johnson, and Delos Johnson. She is survived by her husband; four children, Ivon Cecil and husband David of Amarillo, Iris Atchison and husband Tim of Canyon, Al Blessen and wife Ida of Lubbock, Art Blessen and partner Janet Duke of Albuquerque, New Mexico; one brother, Ellmore Johnson and wife Marie of Lubbock; nine grandchildren, Tina Thrasher, Mindy Mendenhall, Melody Hawkins, Beau Blessen, Jake Blessen, Isaac Atchison, Joseph Atchison, Nicole Duke, and Michaela Duke; six great-grandchildren, Brittany and Emily Thrasher, Colt Mendenhall, Cynthia Hawkins, Landon and Brooke Blessen; and many nephews, nieces, and cousins.

The family suggests memorial contributions be to Christian Relief Fund or a favorite charity.

Visitation will be today from 6 to 7:30 pm at the funeral home.
