Judy F. Sheldon, 67 passed away on December 14, 2011.

Her funeral service 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 17, 2011 at LaGrone-Blackburn-Shaw Martin Road Chapel with Rev. Dale Bigham of Arden Road Baptist Church officiating.  Full military honors will be rendered by the United States Army.

Judy was born on July 21, 1944 in Waurika, OK to Tom and Juanita McEwan.  She moved to Amarillo as a small child with her family.  Judy attended Fanny Allen Memorial School of Practical Nursing, where she graduated in the top three of her class.  She then joined the 974th Supply and Maintenance Company where she was the first woman enlisted to the Army Reserves in the Tri-State Area.  Judy served as the assistant drill instructor for the Civilian Acquired Skills Program (CASP).  In 1976, she attended the Army’s advanced training class at Fort Riley where she was voted the Most Outstanding Cadet in Charlie Company.  She served in many roles during her military career; including, systems control officer, specialized training officer, platoon leader and assistant operations officer.  She was especially proud of her military accomplishments.  Judy obtained her pilot’s license and enjoyed flying and was a member of the Scooter Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Karen Renee Vittum; brothers, Tommy McEwan and Loney Stout and her sister, Betty Hodan.

Her survivors include her sisters, Brenda Wagner and husband Larry and Lonita Leal and husband Daniel all of Amarillo; 2 great friends, Douglas Hanlon and Jackie Borst both of Amarillo and numerous nieces and nephews.
