Judy Harvey, age 72 of Amarillo, TX died peacefully at home on November 9, 2016 of complications from dementia. She was born on December 12, 1943 in Houston, TX and her parents Eloise and Harold Argo preceded her in death. Judy married Jim Harvey on February 15, 1963, in Amarillo, TX. Judy attended school in Amarillo, graduating from Amarillo High School. After attending Amarillo College for two years, she completed her Bachelor degree at Texas Tech University in 1967 and her Master degree at University of Texas Permian Basin in 1975. Judy began her career teaching elementary school in Lubbock ISD (Wheelock Elementary) for one year, continuing in Muleshoe ISD (Mary DeShazo Elementary) for five years, and in Andrews ISD (Devonian Elementary, Glorieta Elementary, and Clearfork Elementary) for thirty years. Through these 36 years of teaching, Judy rejoiced in the daily growth of her students and eventually specialized in reading instruction. After retirement, Jim and Judy moved to Amarillo where they have resided until her death.
Judy's dedication to teaching was reflected by her involvement in Kappa Kappa Iota, a Professional Organization for Educators , and Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, a Professional Honorary Society for Women Educators, serving as State Research Chairman and on the State Leadership Seminar.
Judy loved researching genealogy and completed extensive searches for her family. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Society of Mayflower Descendants, and the National Society Magna Charta Dames.
Judy was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. All survivors include her husband Jim, a wonderful daughter and son in-law Beth and Terry McNeill, 3 grandkids Christin Killingsworth and husband Brian, Trevor McNeill, and Kaitlen McNeill, a brother and sister-in-law Jim and Burnis Argo, a sister-in-law Martha Hodges, a step mother in-law Inez Harvey, and nephews Jimmy Argo, John Argo, Rob Hodges, and Andy Hodges. Judy and Jim's beloved son, Christopher James Harvey, has been missing since 1984.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your local elementary school library or purchase a good book for those youngsters in your life and tell them it is because "a special lady really believed reading is important." Nothing would please Judy more.
