Joseph "Joe" Richard Smith

Joseph “Joe” Richard Smith 78, of Amarillo passed away on October 1, 2011.  Mr. Smith's funeral service will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at LaGrone-Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, Martin Road Chapel, 1505 Martin Road, Amarillo, TX with Monsignor Harold Waldow officiating.  Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 PM Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at LaGrone-Blackburn-Shaw Martin Road Chapel located at 1505 Martin Road from 6-8:00 PM Tuesday, October 4, 2011.

Joe was born on August 15, 1933 in Monroe, Louisiana to John and Genevieve Smith.  Joe served in the United States Air Force from February 19, 1955 until his retirement in December of 1974. He lived in Colorado Springs and worked for Hatch and Co. Home Lighting.  In 1998 he moved to Amarillo with his wife, Virginia of 48 years.  He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Cathedral.

He was preceded in death by his Mother, Genevieve Junkin; step-father, William Junkin;
step-brothers, William Junkin, Jr. and George M. Junkin and step-sister, Edwina Junkin.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Virginia Smith of Amarillo; a sister, Martha Genevieve Junkin Seibert and husband J.W.; step-sisters, Mary and Margaret Junkin; five nephews; two nieces; six great-nieces; and six great nephews and a great-great nephew.
