Jose Herrera Carrera, 86, of Amarillo died on Thursday, March 10, 2016. A rosary service will be held at 6:00 pm, Sunday, March 13, 2016 at LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Martin Road Chapel, 1505 Martin Road with Deacon Pablo Morales, officiating. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 pm, Monday, March 14, 2016 at St. Laurence Catholic Church with Father Felipe Alvarez as Celebrant. Burial will follow in Llano East Cemetery. Arrangements are by LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Funeral Directors, Martin Road Chapel, 1505 Martin Road.
Jose was born on September 4, 1929 in Durango, Mexico to Gregorio and Jovita Herrera. He grew up in Durango where he attended school. He married Carmen Michel on May 13, 1954 in Mexico. He worked as a farmer. He later married Esperanza Vargas. Jose moved to Amarillo in 2005. He was a member of St. Laurence Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wives, Carmen, and Esperanza, brothers, Isabel, Jesus, Saturnino, and Manuel, a sister, Severita, an infant daughter, Teresita, and an infant granddaughter, Jeanette Herrera.
He is survived by his children, Francisco Herrera and his wife, Cristina, Raquel Herrera, Gregorio Herrera and his wife, Teresa, Jesus Herrera and his wife, Hoi, Candida Herrera and her husband, Samuel, Lupe Herrera, Vicente Herrera and his wife Elizabeth, Raul Herrera and his wife, Laura, and Reyna C. Herrera and her husband, Daniel; 25 grandchildren, Isaac, Isaura, Israel, Hilario, Jesus Jr., Carmen, Gabriel, Jessica, Lilia, Lizette, Tony, Wendy, Ricardo, Genesis, Alberto, Michael, Michelle, Jaime, Cindy, Luis, Alex, Allan, Kailey, Jeanette, and Angela; and 22 great grandchildren.
