Mr. Johnny Ray Russell,Sr., 74 of Amarillo passed away today, July 15, 2011.
His funeral service will be at 10:00 AM Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at LaGrone-Blackburn-Shaw Coulter Chapel with Rev. Max Beggs officiating and burial following at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 PM Monday, July 17, 2011.
Johnny was born on September 10, 1936 in Amarillo to Robert and Zelda Russell. He enlisted in the United States Marines in 1953. He married Geneva Jackson IN 1959 in Amarillo. She preceded him in death in 1999. Johnny was employed as a truck driver, hauling fuel for Flying Star Transport. He was an avid golfer. He was a member of the Family Worship Center for over 7 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Geneva Russell; his son, Steven D. Tipton and his sister, Darlene Peters.
His surviors include his daughter, Vickie Bichsel and husband Clay of Amarillo; 2 sons, Johnny Ray Russell, Jr. and wife Ronda of Las Vegas, NV and Ricky Lee Tipton of Childress; 2 brothers, Robert Russell of Baton Rouge and Tommy Russell and wife Edna of Amarillo; 14 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; his special friend, Maxine Trollinger and his beloved pet, Sassy.
