Johnny Lee Barker was born August 11, 1952 in Hays, Kansas to John David and Joann Barker, the oldest of 6 kids. After winning back-to-back state championships in football in 1970 and 1971, he graduated from Helena High School, then went onto Northwestern Oklahoma State University. While refereeing a game, he caught the heart of his soon to be wife, Jan, who realized she was in love. He graduated from Northwestern Oklahoma State University with a Bachelor’s in 1976 and a master’s in education in 1979. He was a high school math teacher and a coach at several schools, including Tyrone, OK, Dexter, KS, Dalhart, TX, Lefors, TX, and Borger, TX. He was a man of faith and pointed his family to Jesus. He was always there for his family, full of patience and even-tempered.
