John M. Stanton, 70, of Amarillo died Sunday, Sept. 2, 2012.

Mr. Stanton was born Sept. 7, 1941, in Altus, Okla., to John Grey and Lou Ellen Rogers Stanton. He served in the Marine Corps from 1959 to 1963. He worked as a mechanic and freight truck driver for United Parcel
Service Inc. Mr. Stanton served as the Teamsters Local 577 vice president from 1974 to 1993. He had lived in Lake Tanglewood since 1988. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include a sister, Jan Cofer of Possum Kingdom; an aunt, Judy Tardiff of Poultney, Vt.; a son, Christopher J. Stanton and wife Denise of Antelope, Calif.; and two grandchildren.
