JoeJohn O'Brien

The world has become a little less colourful with the passing of Joe John O’Brien. His intellect,
quick wit, athleticism, and unwavering gusto will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Joe
loved the finer things in life: beautiful women, Rolexes, Porsche and his closet full of $300
loafers that he often paired with his $10 sweatpants. He was a real head turner. Joe’s sense of humor
reflected his fearless zest for life. He was quick to make a joke, and was a truly good sport when he was the butt of one. He knew it was easy to laugh at him, a fact that would become crystal clear to anyone who saw his dance moves. He was a funny looking man, with a big nose and enormous ears rivaled only by his charm.

Joe was his family’s google before Google, He prided himself on knowing a little bit about everything.
From ancient philosophers to the game stats of a NBA player from 1969, Joe dropped 3 unexpected
facts on the topic at hand. It was a window into his breadth of interests and knowledge. This not only
made him a great conversationalist, but was also useful to his daughters when they were in school.
He strove to be the best at everything he set his mind to. He was a great basketball player, which was no small feat considering he was only 5’ 7” tall. He was also a great tennis player, and later in life a great
golfer. He would chip away at golf balls anywhere, knocking them around the living room or in a vacant
lot for hours. He once said, “It takes a lot of balls to golf like me.”

Most of all Joe was a lover. He adored his daughters, Eren and Kerry (his ”sport models”) and
his grandchildren, Hunter and Amy. He loved them like no one else in the world. He would say,
“I only know one way to love and that is full bore.” It was true; his love and devotion to his
family was fathomless and felt daily.

So we ask all of you to remember Joe often and fondly, and raise a glass of salted (yes, salted)
Lemon Lime Gatorade and celebrate the life of a great father, brother, son, grandfather, prankster, and cantankerous old man.
