Joe Bob Merrill, 55, of Amarillo passed away on Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in LaGrone-Blackburn-Shaw Coulter Chapel with the Rev. John Watson officiating. The family suggests that you feel free to wear your boots and jeans to the service in honor of Joe.
Joe was born April 30, 1955, in Carnegie, Okla. His parents are Dean and Joette Merrill. He was a lifelong resident of Amarillo and graduated from Caprock High School in 1974, where he was in the Rodeo Club and enjoyed bull riding. He married Brenda Woodman on Jan. 15, 1983, in Amarillo. He worked as a mechanic for Midas Muffler Shop for five years, then went to work for Xcel Energy for more than 20 years as a plant operator. Joe enjoyed meeting with his Xcel Energy friends at their monthly breakfast club, which he founded. Joe's best times were spent hunting, fishing, cooking and spending time with family, friends and his Labradors, Molly and Bella. Joe had a big heart with many friends and loved ones to prove it.
He is preceded in death by his father, Dean Merrill, in September 2010.
Survivors include his wife, Brenda Merrill; a son, Brandon Merrill and wife Gwen of Amarillo; a daughter, Erin Merrill of Lubbock; his mother, Joette Merrill of Amarillo; two sisters, Darlene Sellmyer and Debbie Bohensky and husband Joe, all of Amarillo; a brother, Eddie Merrill of Amarillo; and a granddaughter, Madison Merrill of Amarillo.
The family suggests memorials be to The American Diabetes Association, 8008 Slide Road, Lubbock, TX 79424; a charity of choice.
