Joan was born in Macon County, Georgia on October 8, 1934 unto Truitt and Florie Smith Bowles. She married Clarence Edgar Phillips in 1960 in Amarillo. Joan was a longtime resident of Amarillo and owned and operated Pioneer Truckers for many years.
She is preceded in death by her husbands Clarence Phillips and Alvin Ray, her son Randall T. Mitchell and her parents and siblings.
Survivors include her special friend Juanice Noel of Amarillo
