Jim Murphy, 79, of Amarillo passed away on Monday, February 8, 2021. Jim was born on March 22, 1941 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Paul Murphy and Adeline Murane.
Jim attended the University of Oklahoma and received a Master’s Degree in Social Work. He retired in 2011 from Thomas E. Creek VA Medical Center after 40 years of working as a social worker. Jim was a member of the Board of Trustees for Canyon ISD for 40 years. Jim was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Church. He served on the Board of Directors for Texas Chapter of NASW for 6 years. He was NASW Social Worker for the State of Texas in 1990. He was also a long time Board member of The Peace Farm and a Union Officer for AFGE Local #1038. Jim was an avid sports fan and collected memorabilia. Some of his favorite teams to watch were Oklahoma Sooners, Canyon Eagles and the Randall Raiders. He was not only a political activist but he was also a great friend, father and grandfather who loved spending time with his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents; Paul Murphy, Adeline Murane and his biological mother, Beth Hart.
He is survived by his daughters, Dawn Seiffert and husband Glenn of Cypress, TX and Colleen Jicha and husband Joe of Amarillo, TX; his grandchildren, Kathryn Herndon, Brenna Stubbs, Caroline Herndon, Parker Jicha, Grace Seiffert and Anna Seiffert and his sister, Vonnie Helwig of Madison, WI.
