Jessie David "J.D." Springs, 87, of Amarillo passed away surrounded by family on Tuesday, October 1, 2019. Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm, Friday, October 4, 2019 at LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Coulter Road Chapel with Pastor Stuart Smith officiating. The family will be receiving friends from 5:30 to 7:00 on Thursday, October 3, 2019.
J.D. was born on March 2, 1932 in Shamrock to Jerome and Nola Springs. J.D. married the love of his life, Margie Rowe on August 23, 1952 in Clarendon, TX. He proudly served his country in the United States Army where he was a combat medic in the Korean War. He also was a boxer in the special services and he was also a Golden Gloves boxer after he completed his duty. J.D. then went to work for the United States Postal service and was a postal carrier for 44 years. He was an avid bowler who came close a couple of times to the elusive 300 game. When he was younger, he enjoyed playing softball and he was also a licensed Baptist Pastor and was a member of Faith Baptist since 1964.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Margie; his great granddaughter, Zoey Zint and nine brothers.
He is survived by four children, Gary Springs and wife Beth, Dennis Springs and wife Elaine, Cathie Springs and Christy Springs; six grandchildren, David Zint and wife DeLee, Calandra Van Dell and husband Darrin, Trellany Davis, Cassie Cook and husband Josh, June Springs and Bella Paslay and husband Jake; eighteen great grandchildren and fifteen great great grandchildren.
