Jessie Dean Honaker, 79, of Amarillo died Monday, February 17, 2014 at the family home.
Memorial services will be at 11am Saturday, March 1, 2014 at the LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Funeral Home, Coulter Road Chapel, 8310 S. Coulter Road with William L. Black, Jr. officiating. LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Funeral Directors, Coulter Road Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Born to James L. and Lucy May Honaker on August 17, 1934 in Noelette, TX, He spent most of his childhood living on the Schaffer Ranch near Pampa, TX and graduated from Pampa High School in 1955. He met and married Ruth Danley in 1959 in Borger, TX. They later relocated to Amarillo where they’ve resided for the last 46 years.
J.D. was employed by Phillips Petroleum before going to work for Pantex from which he retired in 1990. He went to work for Rocky Flats at Denver, CO and retired again in 1992. After retirement, he became the “go to man” for his many carpentry, plumbing, and other building skills and loved assisting his family, friends and neighbors with their special projects.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Wesley Honaker and Sister, Wanda Ford.
J.D. is survived by Ruth, his wife of 54 years; one son, Graham Honaker of Ute Park, NM; one grandson Graham Dean Honaker II and wife Jodi of Hamden, CN; three brothers: Ira Honaker, Fritch, TX; Jimmy Honaker, Tomball, TX, and Ken Honaker of Amarillo, TX; two sisters: Tressie Roy, Fritch, TX and Nadine Holberg, Dumas, TX. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Jo Thompson of Edmond, OK, and many loving nieces, nephews and longtime friends.
