Jerry Don Melton, 67, of Amarillo passed away on Wednesday, June 27, 2018. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am, Monday, July 2, 2018 at Pleasant Valley Methodist Church with Pastor Tommy Ewing officiating. Arrangements are by LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Funeral Directors, 1505 Martin Road.

Jerry was born on August 21, 1950 in Clarendon to J B and Ruth Melton. He graduated from Palo Duro High School in 1968 and married the love of his life, Debbie Norman in July 1970 at Pleasant Valley Methodist Church. Jerry was an avid sports fan and enjoyed coaching kids of all ages. He took great pride in teaching the fundamentals of the game, but most importantly work ethic, winning with grace and losing with dignity. Jerry even held the City of Amarillo HIgh School field goal record for more than twenty years.

Jerry along with his wife Debbie, enjoyed volunteering at their church and spent several years serving as the youth ministers. He never met a stranger and always loved talking about his kids, grand kids and great grand kids. Whether at the drag strip, ball field, track meet or academics he never missed an event.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Glinda.

He is survived by his wife of forty seven years, Debbie; a daughter, Julie Pierson and husband Charles; two sons, Jeremy Melton and wife Amy and Cody Melton; a brother, Larry Melton and wife Cindy; seven grandchildren, Destiny Lawrence, Mariah Pierson, Charles "Cru" Pierson, Jerricka Schwab, Maddison McLain, Ashli Melton and Braden Green and six great grandchildren.

The family will be receiving friends on Sunday, July 1, 2018 from 4-6pm at LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Martin Road Chapel.
