She had two sisters, Miriam and Dorothy Musgrove. She lived in many places, moving with her adoptive parents who served as teachers with the U.S. Department of the Interior. She graduated from Graettinger High in Iowa and was a member of the marching band playing drums. She joined the Navy in 1952 as a member of the WAVES division, obtaining the rank of Seaman, as well as a naval Good Conduct Medal and a National Defense Service Medal. Jeannie owned and operated "JJ's" Barber shop on McMasters in Amarillo, and served her community both through charitable donation of haircuts to the elderly as well as veterans and through her service with her church, Trinity Church, and her membership in the VFW. She collected autographs and photos of famous actors and musicians, loved mysteries, westerns, wood-working, model planes, and big band music. She had an irreverent sense of humor, smoked like a chimney (of which she was very proud), loved to dance, and often rescued animals. She raised her grandchildren, Keresa and John-Michael Hawley, and lived with her best friend whom she called her sister, Clara Alice Flanagan.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Clara Alice Flanagan.
She is survived by her children, and many grandchildren, as well as great grandchildren.
