Janice Maria Watson, 71, of Canyon, Texas, passed away surrounded by family on Monday, January 13, 2020. Graveside services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, January 15, 2020, at Memory Gardens Cemetery with Elder Don R. Watson of Canyon and Elder Gail Faries of Levelland Primitive Baptist Churches officiating.
Janice was born on October, 1, 1948, in Camp Carson, Colorado, to Coy and Opal Wheeler. She attended the University of Maryland. Janice was married to Colonel Don R. Watson and worked in several different capacities as the family moved with each assignment. As a civil servant, she worked in the Criminal Investigation Division at Ft. Benning, Georgia, U.S. Army Finance at Ft. Stewart, Georgia, and Ft. Eustis, Virginia. Janice was also a stateside Red Cross volunteer during the Vietnam War and was also a Brownie/Girl Scout leader. In addition, she was the office manager for USAA Europe and the loan coordinator for Washington University in St. Louis. After moving to Canyon, she became the office manager for the Division of Nursing at WTAMU.
Janice was a charter member of the Canyon Primitive Baptist Church, where she helped obtain the church building and establish the church. She fiercely loved her family and her church family and was always able to make those around her smile and laugh.
She is survived by her husband Elder Don R. Watson; two daughters, Donna Hagemeier and husband Ken, and Christine Watson, and four grandchildren, Brendan Hagemeier, Jared Hagemeier, Conner Watson, and Natalee Vogel.
