James Nathan Perkins

James Nathan Perkins, age 88, passed away on Friday, February 17, 2023, in Ennis, Texas. His memorial service will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, March 11, 2023, at LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Chapel at 8310 S. Coulter Road, Amarillo, Texas.

Known as Jim to family and friends and Grandpadad and Doodad to his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren, he was born April 19, 1934, in Borger, Texas to H.V. and Nellie Cromer Perkins. He was an educator having served in the following school districts and colleges: Kress, Midland, Canyon, Sanford-Fritch, Tulia, Morton, River Road (Amarillo) and Frank Phillips College. He retired from Frank Phillips College after thirty-five years as a counselor, teacher and administrator.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Elsie, a granddaughter, Lindsey, and a great-grandson, Ivan.

Survivors include his wife, Sylvia Nicholas Buchenau Perkins, two daughters, Sherry Langston and Carole Wardroup, three stepchildren, Blaine and Blake Buchenau and Camille Richie, three grandchildren, Robyn Hamm, Bryan Wardroup and Whitney Langston-Lewis and five great-grandchildren:  Kynsleigh, Kampbell, Maddyn and Maisyn Hamm and Wesley Wardroup.

The family requests memorials be sent to Amarillo Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, Potter-Randall Democratic Club and the Children’s Hospital of Dallas in lieu of flowers.
