Reverend James Stanley Moore, 67 of Amarillo died on Monday, August 15, 2016. Funeral service will be at 10:00 am Friday, August 19, 2016 in Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church with Rev. Gene Hudgins, senior pastor of Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church and Dr. Burt Palmer, senior pastor Polk Street United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Funeral Directors Coulter Road Chapel, 8310 S. Coulter Street.
James was born on September 20, 1948 in Springfield, Ohio to John and Stella Moore. He graduated from Garland High School in 1967. After high school, he was drafted into the United States Army. James
attended Assemblies of God Theological Seminary in Springfield and Brite Divinity School at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, where he received his master's degrees in divinity and theology. He served as pastor for numerous years in the Assemblies of God Church in Michigan, Tennessee and Texas and United Methodist Church in Texas. He married Nancy McDonald on December 28, 1991, in Baird, Texas. James was a master musician. He enjoyed playing his guitar and enjoyed classic cars.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his twin brother, Daniel Lynn Moore, and a grandson, Rocky Mier.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Moore of Amarillo; his children, Stacy Lynn Mier and husband, Robbie, Rebekah Ann Orozco and husband, Alex, all of Dallas, James Stephen Moore and wife Stephanie and Cherry Esther Moore, all of Amarillo; sister in law, Janice Moore; nephews, Nathan Moore, Jonathen Moore and Wesley Moore; and 13 grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials to Polk Street United Methodist Church at 1401 S Polk Street, Amarillo, TX 79101 or to Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church at 316 Valley Ave., Amarillo, TX 79108.
Family will receive guest from 6:30 pm until 8:00 pm on Thursday, August 18, 2016 at the funeral home.
