James Oral Hilliard, 90, of Amarillo died on Wednesday, June 10, 2015. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am, Monday, May 15, 2015 at LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Coulter Road Chapel. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements are by LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Funeral Directors, 8310 S. Coulter.
James was born on May 9, 1925 in Buena Vista, TN to Lewis and Fannie Mae Hilliard. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He married the love of his life, Wanda on April 8, 1950. He owned Parkway Grocery Store in Portales, NM for over 30 years. He then went to work for Affiliated Foods and worked until he retired after 30 years of service. James loved to fish and took many fishing trips to Canada and Alaska. Wherever he was, he was looking to put a hook in the water. James loved the outdoors, buying and selling old cars, but most of all; James loved spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Wanda, a son Edward, a brother Herbert, and three sisters, Mary Frazier, Glenda Edge and Whynama Tucker.
He is survived by two daughters, Margaret Littlejohn and husband Lewis and Carmen “Orlene” Martin, both of Amarillo; a son James Hilliard and wife Phyllis of Garland; five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
The family will be receiving friends from 5:00 – 7:00 pm Sunday, June 14, 2015 at LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Coulter Road Chapel.
