James was born to Henry and Mildred Bynum Hansard in Van Alstyne, Texas on September 25, 1940 He moved to Amarillo, Texas where he married Wilma Milton McGuire on October 5, 1968 and adopted her 5 children.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, and a great grandchild.
Survivors include his wife Wilma of the home, daughters Toni Green and husband Marvin, Pam Stuard and husband James of Amarillo, Texas, Daughter Denise Stone and husband Rob of Marlow, Oklahoma; Daughter Becky Streun and husband Jeff of Midland, Texas and son Phillip McGuire and wife Angela of Allen, Texas, fourteen grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren; brother Jimmy Hansard and wife Gracie and a sister Linda Moore all of Amarillo, Texas.
