James L. Grimes

James L. Grimes, 97, of Amarillo passed away Friday, January 10, 2020. Graveside services will be at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, January 14, 2020 at Memory Gardens Mausoleum with Pastor Rick Harrison officiating.

James was born on January 17, 1922 in Childress, Texas to A.H. and Edith Grimes. He attended school in High Point, Texas. James joined the military serving in the Army under the 872 Airborne Engineers. He married the love of his life Bessie Whitley in Childress, Texas. They were married for a wonderful 63 years. James was a cowboy who loved his horses and recreational roping. He will be dearly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bessie; two brothers and two sisters.

He is survived by his daughter, Cheryl Luther and husband Russell and granddaughter, Kacie Luther.
