James Harmon Berg, 93, of Amarillo passed from this life on Tuesday, June 5, 2018. Services will be held at 11:00 am, Friday June 8, 2018 in LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Coulter Road Chapel with Pastor Stephen Gaines of Covenant Fellowship officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery with military honors by Volleys for Veterans. Arrangements are under the personal care of LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Funeral Directors, 8310 S. Coulter Road.
James was born on November 29, 1924 in Alvord, Texas to Harmon and Julia Berg. He joined the United States Navy where he served his country proudly during WWII. James married Katheleen Brinson on March 26, 1945 in Amarillo. He worked for the railroad then had a long career working for Pioneer Airlines and Continental Airlines in technical operations. He would say that he had worked in the transportation field all his life. He was a member of Covenant Fellowship and he enjoyed playing domino games 42 and 88 with his friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Katheleen, a son, James R. Berg, a sister and two brothers.
Mr. Berg is survived by a daughter, Mary Chamness and husband Stephen; a son, Kenneth E. Berg and wife Kay; daughter in law, Karen Berg; a special sister in law, Mary “Aunt Shug” Ogden and husband, Ray; six grandchildren, Stacy Celey and husband Mike, Misty Dosher and husband Dallas, Chad Berg and wife Cindy, Stephaine Davis and husband Danny, Laura Smith and husband Jeff and Angie Thompson and husband Steven; and 18 great grandchildren.
The family will be receiving friends at LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Coulter Road Chapel on Thursday June 7, 2018 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.
The family suggest memorials be made to Covenant Fellowship.
