James Archie, 73, of Henderson, Colorado, former Amarillo resident, passed away on Saturday, October 21, 2017. Family and friends will gather to celebrate his life at 2:00 pm Friday, October 27, 2017 in LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Martin Road Chapel with his son in law, Pastor Vincent D. Smith , officiating. Viewing will be held before the service at 10:00am. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery with military honors by Volleys for Veterans. Arrangements are under the personal care of LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Funeral Directors, 1505 Martin Road.
James Archie was born to Lillian and L.B. Archie in Wellington, Texas. He went to school there before moving to Amarillo. James worked for the Coca Cola Factory until going into the Unites States Army in 1965 where he was wounded in the Vietnam War and he was awarded numerous medals to include the Bronze Star Medal and the Purple Heart. He married Flora Hames in 1971. He went back to work at Coca Cola until 1976 when he went to work at Asarco Refinery until he retired in 1989.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son James Archie Jr., a grandson, Dominic Archie.
James leaves behind his loving wife of 47 years, Flora Archie; three daughters, Dianna Smith and husband, Pastor Vincent D. Smith, Vicky Archie, all of Henderson, Colorado and Tina Archie; a son Bobby Archie and wife, Becky, all of Amarillo, Texas; seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
