James Alvin Jackson

Funeral Service will be 10 AM. Thursday, January 17, 2013 at LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Martin Chapel 1505 Martin Road with Rev. Jerry Davey officiating.  Services are under the direction of LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Funeral Directors.

VISITATION: Wednesday, January 16, 2013 from 6-8 PM at LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Martin Road Chapel. 1505 Martin Road.
James was born Oct. 11, 1915 in Stephenville to James and Bertha Jackson. He attended school and grew up in Matador. In 1942 he enlisted in the army and served in WWII in the southern Philippines as a heavy machine gunner and driver. He was discharged in 1946 and moved to Amarillo where he was employed by the Bivins and Matador ranches as a cowboy and truck driver. James retired in 1975 and enjoyed drinking coffee at the stockyards with his friends. Mr. Jackson loved to fish and spending time with his grandkids and great-grandkids.


He is preceded in death by his parents,7 siblings, and former wife Norma Jackson.

Survivors include a brother, John Jackson and wife Jill of Lubbock; a sister Janell Shirley of Odessa; 2 daughters, Jo Rodriguez and Gail Carlson of Amarillo; 2 sons, Jerry Jackson and wife Irene, and Johnny Jackson all of Amarillo; 9 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
