J. B. Melton

Graveside Services will be 2:00 PM Thurs. April 11, 2013 in Citizens Cemetery in Clarendon with Larry Dan Melton officiating.

BURIAL:  Burial will be in Citizens Cemetery in Clarendon

Mr. Melton was born Mar. 24, 1921 in Kirkland Texas to Thomas Levi Melton and Myrtle Rowlet Melton.  He grew up in Clarendon and served our country in the US Army during WWII while stationed in France, England and Germany.  He married Ruth Swearingen on Dec. 21, 1946 in Clarendon.  She preceded him in death in 2006.  J.B. worked for many years in the Lumber business and several different Lumber Yards.  Mr. Melton was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather.  He enjoyed playing golf and was a big Texas Ranger fan.  Mr. Melton was very proud of his military career and his service to our country and was a lifetime member of the V.F.W.  He was dearly loved and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his two sons, Jerry Melton and wife Debbie and Larry Melton and wife Cindy all of Amarillo, a son-in-law, Warren Hunkapillar of Renton, WA; two sisters, Maxine McCrary of Lewisville and Dorothy Heathington of Cumby; two sisters-in-law, Faye Melton of  Salem, OR and Alice Melton of Amarillo; seven grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Ruth, a daughter, Glenda Hunkapiller, four brothers, O.J. Melton, Redius Melton, Dalton Melton and Leverett Melton and a sister, Iva

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Wednesday evening  at the Funeral home, 1505 Martin Road
