I.V. MERRILL, 94, died Wednesday, May 16, 2018, in Amarillo, Texas. Services will be held 10am Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at Blackburn-Shaw Coulter Road Chapel with Gary Beauchamp officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens in Amarillo. Arrangements are under the personal care of LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Funeral Home, 8310 S. Coulter Road.
I.V. was born August 20, 1923 in Granbury, TX. To William “Bill” and Edna Conn Merrill. He graduated from Lakeview High in 1943. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy Pacific Fleet, WWII on the U.S.S. Phoenix and was Honorably Discharged after the war ended. He married the love of his life Imogene Canida, in Clarendon June 18, 1949. They were married 68 years at her passing on Dec. 12, 2017. He retired from Pantex Plant, Quality Division after 28 years. He was a Life Member VFW Post 1475 and volunteered at the V.A. Hospital after retirement. He loved all sports and helped start the Booster Club at Caprock High. He loved his family and especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
I.V. was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Imogene Merrill, two brothers and one sister.
Survivors include his two Sons Dendy and wife Carolyn of Longview, TX., and David and wife Cheryl of Amarillo; four Grandchildren Chanette and Kyle of Amarillo and Lauren and Ryan of Longview; 8 Great-Grand Children; and a brother Marvin “Shorty” Merrill, of Roseville, California, and several nieces and nephews.
