Hobart Kilgore Jr., 72 of Amarillo pased away on July 31, 2011. His service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at St. John’s Baptist Church., 2301 NW 14th in Amarillo, TX.
with Rev. Bennie Anderson officiating. His burial will be in Llano Cemetery-East.
Arrangements are by LaGrone-Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Home Martin Road Chapel, 1505 Martin Road, Amarillo, TX.
Mr. Kilgore was born on October 31, 1938 in Hillsboro, TX to the late Hobert Kilgore, Sr. and Eller Wee Ellison. He graduated from Peabody High School and moved to Amarillo in 1959. Mr. Kilgore was drafted then enlisted in the United States Army where he served his country honorably for 7 years.
After serving during the Vietnam Era, he worked at Sears and Roebuck, Montgomery Wards, the City of Amarillo, bailiff for Morris Overstreet, and Potter County Sheriff’s Department for 27 years before he retired in 2000. Mr. Kilgore attended Amarillo College for several years.
Mr. Kilgore was a member of St. John Baptist Church for many years. He served as the church photographer and on the usher board. Mr. Kilgore was also a member of the American Legion, Potter County FOP 57 and served on the board at the Hilltop Senior Citizens Forum.
He was preceded in death by his father Hobert Kilgore, Sr., his uncles, Luther Kilgore and Leo Woodard, his aunt, Idia Crear and his daughter Laura B. Dever-Flanagan.
To cherish his memory, he leaves his wife Bernice Kilgore, mother Eller Wee Ellison of Hale center, TX, children: Carolyn (Charles), Christina (Derrick), Tracy (Kendall), Hobert Kilgore, III (Aimee), Cletus, DeAndrea and Kisha. His grandchildren include Taylor (Cedric), Dell (Ebonye), Chris (Sarah), Laura, Andrew, Raven, Kason, TeAntae’, Christian, Lauryn, Braydon, and Aisha (Randy). Great-Grand-children: Ta’Miree, Manda, Jaide, Dell Jr., Chris Jr., Aleyda and Alexia. Two aunts, Ivanna Donnell of Hale center, TX, Majorie Woodard of Shamrock, TX, an uncle Clemon Woodard of Waxahachie, TX and a host of nieces, nephews, adopted children and friends.
Family Suggest in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the Hilltop Senior Citizens Forum or Olivia’s Angels at BSA Hospice.
