Herbert Jackson

September 9, 1942 — August 11, 2020

Houston, Texas

Herbert S. Jackson, 77, of Houston, Texas passed away Tuesday, August 11, 2020. Herbert was born in Fort Sill, Oklahoma on September 9, 1942 to Charles and Doris Jackson. Herbert moved to Amarillo in the 1950’s where his dad was stationed at the airbase. He always said he was the first customer at the Cattleman’s Café when it opened. He enlisted in the Army and once he was honorably discharged got married. He worked for the Texas Highway Department for 15 years. Due to a back injury he was forced to retire. He was a member of the AES Amarillo Emergency Service for many years. He later moved to Van Horn, Texas. There he helped run a RV Park. He later sold the RV Park and moved to Houston, Texas with his wife Kay Jackson and lived there until the time of his death. He never met a stranger while in Houston. They loved to square dance and danced 3 to 4 times a week. In his past time he would go to Wal-Mart to drink coffee and talked to people and pray for them. He was kind, gentle and did not like confrontation. He could fix just about anything.

Herbert is survived by his wife, Carol Kay Jackson; two sons, Milton and Michael; one daughter, Melissa; eleven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and a sister, Connie Murphy.
