Helen Phyllis Sneed, 78, of Amarillo died on November 28, 2014. Funeral Services will be at 10:00 am on Monday, December 1, 2014 at Northside United Pentecostal Church, 2424 N. Mirror with Pastor Rodger Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Llano Cemetery.
Helen was born on September 5, 1936 in Canadian to Arthur and Louise Verkler. Helen attended school in Canadian and received her LVN training from Amarillo College. Helen was a LVN for over 47 years and retired from the Veteran's Administration Hospital. After retirement, she was medical nurse at the prisons in Amarillo and was affectionately known as "Gangster Granny". Helen was a member of Northside United Pentecostal Church and loved teaching the children in Sunday school. She was very involved in her church. Helen would open her home to anybody that needed a place to live. She loved her cat "Precious" and her dog "Doc Nelson". She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters and four husbands.
She is survived by two sons, Carl R. "Ricky" Ruthstrom of Amarillo and Robert E. "Bobby" Ruthstrom of Shafer, MN; a step son Paul Chavez and wife Zabrina of Phoenix, AZ; a brother Arthur James Verkler and wife Lynn of Graham,, WA.; 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
