Mrs. Hazel B.Nichols funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at
LaGrone-Blackburn-Shaw Martin Road Chapel, 1505 Martin Road in Amarillo, TX with Pastor Don Heddin officiating. Burial will be at Llano Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday evening, May 17, 2011 at LaGrone-Blackburn Shaw Martin Road Chapel.
Hazel Bruhn Nichols, 89, of Amarillo passed away Saturday, May 14 at her home. She was born February 14,1922 in Logan NM. to Elmor Bruhn and Myrtle Casey Bruhn. She married Billy S. Nichols on October 2, 1951 in Logan NM. He preceded her in death June 21, 1990. Amarillo has been her home since 1955, She was a homemaker as well as a rancher, and enjoyed coaching Kids Inc. softball and basketball when her children were young and played softball for many years herself. She loved all animals and enjoyed taking care of her cattle.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents; one sister Lavonne Paulk, two brothers, Fred Bruhn and Ernest Bruhn.
Survivors include her four children, Kathy Burris and husband Tommy of Rogers,AR; Eddie Nichols and wife LouAnne of Houston; Sharon Lindley and husband Ray of Amarillo; and Julia Newman and husband Alan of Hereford, TX; eight grandchildren, Jerome Burris, Jennifer and William Nichols, Bryan Landes, Trent and Lorissa Lindley, and Dawn and Christopher Strawhacker; and 1 great-grandchild, Taylor Todd; a sister Joyce Mitchell and a brother August Bruhn both of Logan NM, as well as many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Assembly of God Church in Logan, NM. 88426; or The Amarillo Humane Society 3501 S. Osage, Amarillo TX 79109.
