Harlin was born on August 8, 1930 in Seymour, TX to Harlin Sr. and Lillie King. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1948. While in the military, he earned many medals, including: an Army occupations medal, a Combat Infantry Badge, a Silver Star, a Purple Heart and a Korean Service Medal. Many of his fellow soldiers called him a hero, a title which he never accepted. He was honorably discharged in 1952. He married Anna Jean Roberts in 1951. She preceded him in death in August 9, 1995. Harlin worked as a conductor for the railroad, there he was a student instructor for new hires for 5 years and served as the UTU Local Chairman for 17 years. His hard work, training and dedication saved many lives there. Harlin retired from Santa Fe Railroad in 1990 after 37 years of employment. He married Barbara “Bobbie” Duffy on January 29, 1971. After over 35 years of marriage she preceded him in death on February 16, 2006. Harlin was a kind- hearted man who was always serving others. He volunteered at Bivins Nursing Home for over 17 years in the cafeteria and took care of many elderly people in his community and church. He was a very active member at Second Baptist Church, serving as a deacon and volunteering for over 10 years with the Good News Bears, which served meals to Jr. High students after school on Wednesdays. Harlin loved playing the Domino game 42 at the Polk Street Senior Citizen’s Center.
Harlin was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Willie and Elvie King; his sister, Rachael Morgan; his first wife Anna Jean King; his son, Terry Blasingame; grandson, Matthew Golden and wife Barbara “Bobbie” King.
Those left to cherish his memory are his 2 Sons, Eddie King and Michael King of Amarillo; 4 daughters, Jeannie Golden and husband Robby of Corinth, Michael Angelino of Amarillo, Sherry Kube and husband Rob of Arlington and Chris Crawford of Amarillo; 2 brothers, Robert “Bud” King and J.C. King of Seymour; 18 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
