Guadalupe M. Hernandez, 94, of Little Elm, former Amarillo resident, died on Sunday, July 10, 2016. The Holy Rosary will be said at 7:00 pm, Thursday, July 14, 2016 at LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Coulter Road Chapel with Msgr. Michael Colwell, officiating. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am Friday, July 15, 2016 at Saint Joseph Catholic Church with Msgr. Michael Colwell as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens. Arrangements are by LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Funeral Directors, 8310 S Coulter Street.
Guadalupe was born on March 13, 1922 in Osage City, Kansas to Jose Maria and Vicenta Hernandez. He married Narcisa Reyna on June 27, 1948 in Juarez, Mexico. They made Amarillo their home where he lived for over 50 years. He worked as a general laborer in road construction for many years and later he worked in the warehouse for Affiliated Foods until his retirement in 1988.Guadalupe was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church where he played and sang in the church band for over 40 years. He was an avid jogger where he ran many 5K runs and a half marathon. He and his wife moved to Little Elm in 2008.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and four sisters.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Narcisa Hernandez; his children, Esther Gonzalez, Lupe Artz and husband Clifford, Richard Hernandez and fiancee Eloisa Soriano, Margaret Harper and husband Rick, Luis Hernandez and wife Pam and Liz Cazares and husband Rick; a brother, Miguel Hernandez; sisters, Juanita Hernandez and Gloria Ponce; 25 grandchildren,49 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren.
