Deacon Gregory Lynn Nickerson, the second of five children was born to O. D. and Nellie Mae Nickerson on June 2, 1954 in Amarillo, Texas. He attended Amarillo public schools, graduating from Palo Duro High School. He went on to attend Cisco Junior College and McMurray College in Abilene, Texas, on football scholarships.
Gregory was a Self-Employed Dirt Contractor for 30 years. He previously worked for Energas and O. D. Nickerson, Inc. Gregory was currently employed for the City of Amarillo, Drainage Department, when his health failed.
He accepted Christ at an early age at Jenkins Chapel Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Reverend J. W. Wade. He remained a loyal and faithful servant of the church from childhood until death. He was ordained as a Deacon on January 1, 2006, under the pastorate of Reverend D. D. Fincher. He served faithfully as a deacon, usher and other ministries of the church until death.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Theresa Manning Nickerson; his father and mother; one daughter, Belinda Nickerson (Gary) Chambers of North Richland Hills, Texas, and one son, Nicholas (Porsche) Nickerson of Fort Worth, Texas. Three brothers, Kingery (Cathy) Nickerson, and Roger Nickerson both of Amarillo, Texas, and Rev. Xavier Nickerson of Dallas, Texas; one sister, Youlanda Nickerson Brown of Houston, Texas. One step-daughter Cari McCoy of Amarillo, Texas; two grandsons and one granddaughter; one step-grandson and two step-great grandsons; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
