Goldie Laura Denton 80, passed away on October 26, 2023 in Amarillo TX.
Goldie Laura Grant was born to Laura Litha Hudson and Woodrow Wilson Grant on April 13, 1943 in Chipley, Florida. They lived on farms mostly in Florida until Goldie was 10 years old and they moved to Houston. She graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School. While working at Methodist Hospital in Houston she completed her Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) training, becoming licensed in 1966. Goldie worked in hospitals, nursing homes, and home healthcare until her retirement in July of 2013.
In 1966 she met Gary Edward Denton and they were married later that year. During their marriage, they had two daughters. They were married three days shy of 57 years.
Goldie was a quiet and meek lady. She deeply and dearly loved her Lord. She loved working with children from her late teens until Parkinson’s disease made it impossible. She spent the last 13 years being grandma or “Bea” to her daughter’s over 70 foster children. She never complained, even about the dreaded disease that chained her body, took her mind and ultimately her life. She never blamed God!
Goldie is survived by her husband Gary Edward Denton, her daughters Pamela Sue Silva Butcher (Trent), and Laura Lucille Gross (Philip), granddaughter Alexis Cherae Silva, grandson Christian David-Paul Silva (Katlin), three great-grandsons, a sister Brenda Blanco (Rudy), two brothers Dr. Wilson Wayne Grant (Veronica), and Travis Grant.
She is preceded in death by her parents, and stepmother Virginia Dare Grant.
The family has asked for plants or donations.
