Funeral Service will be at 2:00 PM Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013 in LaGrone-Blackburn-Shaw Coulter Road Chapel, 8310 S. Coulter with Bo Williams of Trinity Fellowship Church officiating.
Burial with Military Honors will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery, by LaGrone-Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors.
Mr. Melton was born Mar. 28, 1933 in in Clarendon to Brit and Mary Melton. He grew up in Amarillo and was a 1951 graduate of Amarillo High School. He served in the United States Navy from 1951 until 1955. George married Barbara Hardin on Feb. 23, 1954 in Redwood City, CA. He was a commercial builder and owned and operated George Melton Construction for over 20 years. He enjoyed playing golf and loved spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Bonnie Hearn.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara; two daughters Connie Melton of Amarillo and Cathy Melton of Prescott Valley, AZ; a son, Keith Melton and wife P.J. of Arlington, TX; two sisters, LaJuan McCraw and husband Marion of Tyler and Beth Morehead and husband Jack of Nevada City, CA; two brothers, Bob Melton and wife Earlene of Amarillo and Bill Melton and wife Betty all of Diamond City, MS; five grandchildren, Trevor Carver, Trey Carver, Logan Melton, Brooke Melton and Rylee Melton and three great-grandchildren, Ivey, Olivia and Joah.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Monday evening at the funeral home.
