Fred D. Bailey Sr. was born on Sept. 7, 1932 in Villa Rica, GA.  He is the oldest of 10 brothers and sisters.  The Bailey Family survived working long hot days in the cotton fields and other tedious jobs.  At the age of 19, Fred joined the U.S. Marine Corps, where he served for 3 years and then enlisted 4 times in the U.S. Army.  He retired July 31, 1974 with a total of 22 ½ years of service.  It was in Saigon, Vietnam, where he met his wife, Sinh.  They were married August 10, 1973 in Fort Riley, KS.  This year marked their 40th wedding anniversary.  They moved to Grants, NM in 1980 when the uranium mines were successful.

New life began in 1981, when he asked Jesus Christ into his heart as his Lord and Savior and became a radical born-again Christian.  He was not ashamed or afraid to tell anyone about the love of God and the change in his life.  Whether he was at work, selling egg rolls, or just around town, Fred always greeted with a serious face, but you both left smiling.  He was a faithful man, attending the Potter’s House Christian Center for almost 30 years, where he was deeply involved with video, tape, and prison ministry.  He also served as a drill instructor and counselor in Christian youth boot camps.

The values of honor, courage, commitment, and discipline were principles by which Fred lived his life.  These principles have been passed on to his children and grand-children.  The greatest principle was cultivating a relationship with Jesus Christ.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Ruby Bailey; a son, Fred Bailey Jr. and two sisters Mary and Jeanette.

Survivors include his wife, Sinh of the home; their children, Julie Davis and husband Shawn of Amarillo, Angie Hocker and husband Jeremy of Redding, CA and Fred D. Bailey III and wife Summer of Oklahoma City; their grandchildren, Keziah, Akeem, Aliyah, Jacquel, Terrell, Micaiah, Kyrie and Asia, Fred’s children, Sam, Lewis, Ronnie, Charlotte, Rhonda and Janice and their children, four brothers, Charles, Floyd, Walt and James and three sisters, Bernice, Mildred and Doris.
