Eva A Layton

August 30, 1916 — July 5, 2012

Eva Ara Layton, 95, of Amarillo died Thursday, July 5, 2012.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Memory Gardens Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel with the Rev. Chester O’Brien of First Baptist Church in Amarillo officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements are by LaGrone-Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, Coulter Road Chapel, 8310 S.
Coulter St.
Eva was born Aug. 8, 1916, in Limestone County to William Robert Harper and Myrtle Pace Harper. She grew up in Muleshoe. She graduated from Muleshoe High School and studied at Baylor University for one year. After she married Charles Harris, she lived in Sudan. She and Charles moved to Amarillo after the birth of Marsha, their only daughter. They were married for 35 years. Charles preceded her in death in 1973. At that time, Eva began teaching kindergarten at Head Start and St. Joseph’s Catholic School.In 1975, Eva married Ivan Layton, and they were married for 19 years. They spent time between Amarillo and Timberon, N.M. After Ivan died in 1994, Eva moved to Fort Worth to be near her daughter and family. She belonged to First Baptist Church in Amarillo for many years. She enjoyed playing bridge and golf. She and Ivan championed the building of a non-denominational church in Timberon, which they enjoyed while they lived in New Mexico. She last belonged to Gambrell Baptist Church of Fort Worth.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Naomi Harper Crowley; and her husband, Ivan Layton.
Survivors include a daughter, Marsha Harris Waugh and husband Donnie of
Fort Worth; grandchildren, Kathleen Waugh, Martin Waugh and wife Rebecca, Jordan Waugh and Rebecca Waugh; and two nephews, Joe Crowley of Amarillo and Bob Crowley of Denver.
The family suggests memorials be to Alzheimer’s
Association, 415 S.W. Eighth Ave., Amarillo, TX 79101; Odyssey Hospice of Fort Worth, 6940 River Park Circle, Fort Worth, TX 76116; First Baptist Church of Amarillo; or First United Methodist Music Ministry of Fort Worth.
