Esperanza Alegria

July 19, 1959 — October 9, 2020

Amarillo

Esperanza Hernandez Alegria, 61, was born July 19,1959 in Plainview, Texas. Esperanza graduated from Caprock High School. She worked various clerical and retail jobs but found her passion working in Early Childhood Education at Our Lady of Guadalupe. Esperanza was a mother long before she had children of her own. She helped raise her younger brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. There are many fond memories of her taking them to church on Sundays, out for breakfast afterwards and going to the movies. Esperanza loved dancing and music. Her mother made her tag along to dances to take care of her brother George but it was known she loved going too.

Esperanza would help her mom find Christmas gifts for everyone to enjoy. Anyone who truly knew Esperanza knew she loved her yard sales, going to the flea market every Sunday accompanied by her husband Tomas, thrift shopping and antique shopping. She had a love for finding the beauty in something old or forgotten. She happily shared her finds with friends and family. Her love for life and people in general shined through her gifts. She took thought into every cross, angel statue, and knick knack that she gave away because she truly enjoyed putting a smile on someone’s face. Her heart was just as big as her smile, voice and laugh. Despite being a mother of 8 she always made time for each of her children and grandchildren. She had no problem being the centralized love and support for her loved ones. Her greatest treasures were her children. She loved them with all her heart. Although her effortless generosity and kindness was constant and overflowing she had strong convictions and was never afraid to speak her mind. Esperanza had a deep love for her faith and instilled this in her children’s lives. She had a knack for making friends and being a great friend too. She never met a stranger and had a huge heart which showed in every aspect of her life.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Tomas Alegria; her children, Angelica Maldonado and husband Efrain, Minerva Garcia, Jose Luis Gonzalez, Sebastian Gonzalez, Perla Cardenas and husband Emilio, Seleste Gonzalez, Gloria Gonzalez, Mercedes Gonzalez and 12 grandchildren. Her surviving siblings, Maria Celaya, Lupe Reynoso, Jimmy Hernandez, Juanita Garcia, Josefina Hernandez, Rosa Pope, Xavier Hernandez and Jesse Hernandez and many extended cousins, nieces and nephews. Also left to cherish her memory are her close friends, Mary Louise Vigil, Cynthia De La Cerda, Deanah Alvarez, Margarita Reyes and Rosalinda Ramos.

Esperanza was preceded in death by her loving parents, Jose and Esperanza Hernandez; her sister, Francisca Trevino; her brothers, Clemente Hernandez, Martin Hernandez and George Hernandez and her niece, Marianna Hernandez.
