Emmitt Lee Henderson age 76, of Amarillo, passed away Wednesday, December 11, 2013.

The family will be receiving friends from 4-6 p.m., Friday, December 13, 2013 at LaGrone-Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, 8310 S. Coulter.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, December 14, 2013 at Arden Road Baptist Church with Pastor Dale Bigham officiating. Graveside Services will follow in Memory Gardens cemetery. Arrangements are by LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Funeral Directors, Coulter Road.

Emmitt was born on May 5, 1937 to Perry and Ethel Ollie (Maxwell) Henderson. Emmitt attended Alba High School in Alba, Missouri where he was a catcher on the baseball team. Emmitt was good enough to have the opportunity to play minor league baseball. Emmitt proudly served his country in the Army during the Korean War. After discharge from the Army, Emmitt moved to Webb City, Mo. where he worked for Rocket Dyne, and while there, studied pastoral ministry. He was a pastor for 4 years. Emmitt married Mary Kay in May of 1978 in Amarillo. Emmitt worked for Pantex for 5 years and then went to work for TXDOT as a heavy equipment operator until he retired after 19 years. Emmitt liked to water ski and go fishing when he was younger. Every year, Emmitt and Mary Kay would go to the Rio Grande Valley for 6 months and Emmitt would help out the pastors in the churches in Old Mexico. Emmitt also enjoyed being a square dance caller and dancer.

Survivors include his wife Mary Kay; 2 daughters, Kelly Calvery and husband David of Carrollton, TX and Laonna Davis of Tucson, AZ; 2 sons, Brian Henderson and wife Darla of Amarillo and Hugh Henderson and wife Rachel of Watauga, TX; 2 step-sons, Denny Fowler and wife Marcie of Lantana, TX and Jerry Fowler and wife Tammy of Amarillo; 1 step-daughter Dee Schwartz and husband Tim of Amarillo;1 sister, Leona Robinson and husband Rob of Killeen, TX and 19 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Arden Road Baptist Church Mission Fund.
