Elmo G. Roberts

June 13, 1917 — April 20, 2011

Elmo (E.G.) Roberts passed away on April 20, 2011.  He was born on June 13, 1917 in Cement, TX to John and Gertie Roberts.  He married Fay Alberta Thompson on December 23, 1942 in Chickasaw, OK.  They had been married for 68 years.  He then enlisted in the United States Army on August 7, 1942.  He served during WWII under General George Patton.  He entered into combat on November 12, 1945 where he fought in northern France and Germany during the Battle of the Buldge.  His unit rescued allies from the German Army at Bastorel during this time.  He was awarded the Purple Heart and the Silver Star.  E.G. was honorably discharged from service on November 12, 1945 at Fort Chaffe Louisiana.  He moved to Amarillo in 1946 where he worked for Sante Fe Railroad as a brakeman for 26 years.  E.G. formerly attended Pleasant Valley Baptist Church and had rental properties after his retirement from the railroad.

Survivors include his wife, Fay Roberts of the home; son, Everett Roberts and wife Mona of Amarillo; sister, Odessa Hall of Ft. Smith, Ark and his great granddaughter, Tryston Roberts of Amarillo.

Mr. Roberts was preceded in death by his Parents and his grandson, Joseph Wayne Roberts.

Graveside Services will be at 11:00 AM Friday, April 22, 2011 with Military Honors by a detachment from Ft. Hood at Llano Cemetery with Glen Wall officiating.
Services are by LaGrone-Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Martin Road Chapel.
