Elgevia M. Burrows, 76 of Amarillo passed away on Sunday, November 20, 2011.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at The First Baptist Church of Amarillo with Dr. Howard K. Batson officiating. Burial following at Llano Cemetery by LaGrone-Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, 8310 S. Coulter Rd.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 22, 2011, from 6-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Elgevia Burrows was born September 7, 1935, in Campo, CO to Lloyd and Grace Newton Swagerty. She grew up in Oklahoma and graduated from Delhi High School where she played defensive guard on her high school basketball team and was crowned basketball queen. She married Forrest Joe Burrows on February 26, 1954, in Delhi, OK. She worked in the new accounts department at Texas Commerce Bank and retired after many years of service. Elgevia enjoyed teaching Sunday School and organizing activities for the youth for over ten years while a member of Bolton Street Baptist Church. She had been a member of First Baptist Church of Amarillo for the last twenty-six years and was a member of The Barnabas Sunday School Class. Elgevia loved the Lord and loved her family. She loved the mountains and spending family time at their cabin in Eagle Nest, NM. She was a meticulous homemaker, an avid basketball fan, and a member of the Red Hatters.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Kerry Burrows; two brothers and two sisters
Survivors include her husband, Forrest Joe of the home; two sons, Rodney Burrows and wife, Nancy of Broomfield, CO; Doug Burrows and wife, Emily of Amarillo; a daughter-in-law, Brenda Burrows of Amarillo; a brother, A.L. Swagerty and wife, Phyllis of Fletcher, OK; a sister, Merieta Swagerty of Amarillo; her grandchildren, Brent Burrows of Frisco, Andrea Ables of Mt. Vernon, Brandon Burrows, Cassie Burrows and Tim Burrows, all of Amarillo, Spenser and Landry Burrows of Broomfield, CO; and her five great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 22, 2011, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
