Elaine Farmer Saunders, 96 of Amarillo died Wednesday, November, 27 2019, surrounded by her family.
Memorial Services will be 11:00 AM Monday, December 2nd at LaGrone Blackburn-Shaw Funeral directors Coulter Chapel with Pastor Danny Logan Officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of LaGrone Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors.
Elaine was born December 11th, 1922 to William “Bill” and Lois Farmer in Manning Kansas. She grew up in Scott City Kansas until the family later moved to Amarillo in 1937. Elaine was referred to as the “tom boy” of the family by her siblings. At age sixteen Elaine won the gold medal for the back stroke in the Amarillo city wide swim meet; she would also go on to win second place in the cross state bowling meet in Oklahoma City. She married her husband Johnie Saunders in January of 1949; while living in Amarillo she worked in audit and sales for Sears Department Store for 37 years before retirement, and then worked for Sam’s. Elaine loved softball, enjoyed playing cards with friends, and refinishing furniture. Among her many talents, and skills Elaine was an avid decorator, seamstress and painter. Elaine’s Family remember her best as the perfect host, always having her home filled with family and friends; she had a beautiful soul and sweet spirit, she will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her parents; two Brothers William T Farmer Jr. and Roger Farmer; two sister Irma Lea Farmer Southworth, and Orlena Marvin; One daughter Sally Snell; and Her beloved husband Johnie Saunders.
Survivors include her three daughters, Suzanne Morris of Port Arthur, TX, Stacy Henderson of Amarillo, and Shannon Foraker of Peoria, IL; two brothers Jim Farmer, and Robert “Bob Farmer; one sister Frances Westmoreland; three grandchildren, Jessica Osterkamp, T.J. Caster, and Seth Morris; four great-grandchildren, Jordan Guajardo, Caden Deisch, J.D. Villegas, and Alie Chapman; also, a host of nieces, nephews and other family members.
Elaine’s Family suggest memorials be made to The Maverick boys and girls Club of Amarillo; 1923 S. Lincoln St, Amarillo TX 79109.
