Ray was born July 25, 1928, in Cottle County to Raz and Lylyan Cartwright. Ray married Mozelle Elmore on Oct 1, 1945, in Pantex. He joined the Army in 1946 and served in World War II as a truck driver transporting guards from checkpoint to checkpoint. After his discharge, he came to Amarillo and was a truck driver until his retirement.
Ray loved fishing and camping. He was a handyman’s handyman always working on something. He worked in maintenance at Village of Hope. He sponsored many children who did not have the funds for church camp. Ray served as president of Full Gospel Business Men’s Ministry. He married Bettie Thompson on April 5, 2008. Ray loved and served his Lord and is rejoicing in his presence. He was dearly loved and will be deeply missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; a brother, O.C. Cartwright; and a grandson, D.J. Cartwright.
Survivors include his wife, Bettie; a brother, Bill Cartwright and wife Bonnie of Amarillo; a daughter, Patricia Cartwright of San Antonio; three sons, Dan Cartwright, Don Cartwright and wife Jearene and David Cartwright and wife Gail, all of Amarillo; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and a great-great grandchild.
