Dosty Rudolph Serafin

Dosty was born on September 1, 1953 in Baltimore, Maryland to Dosty Sr. and Gloria Serafin . He attended Archbishop Curley High School in Baltimore, MD, where he held the school record in shot put for over 30 years. He graduated in 1971. He then attended Towson State University where he held school records in shot put, discus and the hammer throw. Dosty held several state weightlifting titles in Delaware, Maryland, Virginia and Wyoming. He was the first fully trained paramedic at John Hopkins University. Throughout college, Dosty served as the Director of Ambulance Services at Baltimore City, MD. Later he became the Wyoming State Correctional Facility Medical Administrator for over 5 years. He graduated from the Physician Assistant (PA) program in 1984 from the University of Utah and worked in family practice in Rawlins, WY for one year before moving to Texas. In Texas he served as PA in the Texas Department of Corrections in Huntsville. He began working at the Amarillo VA Hospital in 1990 where he worked as the orthopedic surgical PA for more than 20 years. Dosty took excellent care of the veterans in the clinic, on the ward and in the OR. Dosty was an intelligent, caring and passionate man. He was always there when his friends needed him- steady and sure, kind and gentle. He loved life and enjoyed taking hunting trips to the Rocky Mountains in the motor home with his family. Dosty was extremely devoted to the love of his life Sharon Appel Serafin of 34 years and their son Matt. He was happiest spending time with Sharon and Matt working on various projects around their country home. He was loved and respected by many. Dosty cherished his son Mathew with which he knew was a very special gift from God.
Dosty’s second family was his friends and coworkers at the Veterans hospital.  Dosty contributed much of his success in orthopedics to Dr. Hyde, Dr. McKay and his friend and mentor Dr. Patel who was responsible for most of his orthopedic training when he first came to the VA.  He is preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Sharon and Son Matt of Amarillo. 3 Brothers, John Bertman Gill of Christianburg, VA, Greg and his wife Martha Serafin of Fawn Grove, PA, Curtis Matthew and his wife Tammy Serafin of New Windsor, MD. 1 Sister, Gloria Priscilla Serafin of New Orleans, LA. Numerous nieces and nephews and close friends. Dosty will be missed by all who knew him.
A trust fund is being established for his son Matt information is forthcoming.
