Dorothy Louise Knox, born on May 4, 1934, in Shuqualak, Mississippi, to Ervin and Geneva (Coleman) Scott, Sr. passed away on October 12, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones. She was a beloved mother, sister, and friend who touched the lives of many with her kindness and devotion. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband SSGT Tommie T Knox Sr., her brothers Donnie George Scott, and Eugene “Pat” Scott, and her cherished daughter Patricia Ann Knox.
Dorothy attended public school in Shuqualak and moved to Amarillo, Texas, in 1951, when her husband was stationed at the Amarillo Air Force Base. She continued her education at Carver High School. She was a faithful member of River of Life Fellowship. Dorothy had a passion for cooking, which she shared with the community as the owner of the Coconut Inn Café. Dorothy also worked alongside her husband as co-owner and operator of Sunnyhill Farms Meat Market and Processing facility located on the Canyon E-way and later as a cook at Kirkland Court Health and Rehabilitation Center, where her warmth and culinary talents brought comfort to many.
Her contributions to the family business were just one example of the many ways she poured her heart into everything she did, leaving a lasting impression on those who knew her.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and strength, cherished by her five daughters: Beverly E. (Jerry) Brockington of Los Osos, CA, Linda R. Knox of Amarillo, Texas, Brenda L. (Russell) Brame of Denver, CO, Donna K. (Timothy) Majors of Amarillo, Texas, and LaTonya R. Knox of Houston, Texas, along with her son Tommie T Knox Jr. of Amarillo, Texas. Dorothy was blessed with thirteen grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren who will continue to carry her memory in their hearts.
She is also remembered fondly by her siblings: Bonnie (Albert) Hale of Chicago, IL, Ellen Robey of Chicago, IL, Ervin (Alma) Scott, Jr. of Chicago, IL, James “Billy” (Luella) Scott of Minot, ND, and Edwin (Connie) Scott of Wooster, OH, and her loving sister-in-law, Aretha White of Chicago, IL, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Dorothy’s life was a testament to perseverance, unwavering strength, love, and joy, and she will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate to know her. Her legacy will continue to shine through the lives of those she touched.
