Dorothy Marie Jones, 94, of Amarillo passed on Saturday, January 11. 2020.
Dorothy was born on July 31, 1925 to the late Perry and Katie Boykins Boyd in Marshall, TX. At an early age, Dorothy moved to Borger, TX to be around family. The late Clifton and Eveline White of Borger. While there she lived a happy life raising her five kids, Curtis, Willie Edward, Nelson (Bo), Mike and Jocelyn. She worked many years for the late Dr. H.M. Hamra and family.
Dorothy moved to Amarillo and in 1974 started working for Southwestern Public Service (SPS). She started there cleaning offices but was recognized for hard work and integrity and offered a job as a Foreman out at the Harrington Station. She worked for SPS until retiring in 1986. She enjoyed her job and the people that she worked for and those that reported to her.
Dorothy enjoyed traveling to visit family members, she enjoyed cooking and baking. Her two favorite cakes were "Pound" and German Chocolate Cakes. She used to say it was the way her "Big Mama" taught her. Dorothy was an active member of Greater Mount Olive Baptist Church. She loved and enjoyed fellowshipping with the members of GMO up until the time she was not able to attend. She especially loved hearing Sis. Martin sing and play the piano. Dorothy enjoyed being able to help raise her Grandson Michael and supported him throughout his school years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three sons; Curtis Jr., Willie Edward, Nelson (Bo) and a sister.
Dorothy is survived by 2 children: Michael (Mike) and wife Mallory of Dallas, TX and Jocelyn and husband Hobert of Amarillo, TX. She also is survived by 5 grandchildren; Michael Johnson, Camille Boyd -Morrison (Sean), Victor Sauls, Curtis N. Jones III (Angela) and Vanessa Jones, several great-grandchildren and her good friend and longtime neighbor Daisy Pippin.
A funeral service celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, 18th of January, 2020 at 2:00 PM at Greater Mount Olive Baptist Church, 1315 North Hughes Street, Amarillo, Texas 79107
