Dorothy Louise Kirk Hurt, 87, of Amarillo died on Thursday, April 14, 2016. Memorial services will be at 11:00 am, Saturday, April 23, 2016 at Bykota Baptist Church with Pastor Linvell Tisdale officiating. Arrangements are by LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Funeral Directors, 1505 Martin Road.
Dorothy was born to William and Durene Kirk on February 9, 1929. She graduated from Amarillo High School in 1953 and from Amarillo College School of Nursing in 1955, while working as a switchboard operator. Dorothy worked for St. Anthony's Hospital, Amarillo Air Force base, BSA Hospice and numerous doctors. She loved to crochet and read, but her true loves in life were her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved working with her children at Bykota.
She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother Charles Joseph, an infant sister Glenda, and her son, Bill.
She is survived by two sisters, Peggy Waymire and husband Marlon and Linda Kinnison and husband Don; two daughters, Cathy Kunce and husband Gary and Peggy Hurt; a son, Gene Hurt and wife Mary Ann (Tinker); a daughter in law, Carolyn; eight grandchildren, twenty two great grandchildren; one great great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the children of Bykota Baptist Church, 4022 NE 26th Ave, Amarillo, TX 79107.
